Former CEO of Sonus Networks and Flarion Technologies Joins Emerging Mobile Airlink Technology Company to Commercialize Adoption of OTFS in Cellular Networks

Meet Cohere Technologies at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 25-28.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — February 12, 2019 – Cohere Technologies, the innovator of Orthogonal Time Frequency & Space (OTFS) airlink for unmatched mobile performance and capacity for today’s network challenges and tomorrow’s mobile demands, today announced that Ray Dolan has joined the company as Chairman and CEO to lead growth and commercial adoption of the industry’s most spectrally efficient airlink.

Ray brings decades of technical and entrepreneurial leadership to Cohere’s mission,” said Ron Bernal, venture partner with New Enterprise Associates. “His first-hand experience with driving adoption of advanced airlink technologies is invaluable as Cohere supports the rollouts of 5G by operators around the world.”

Mr. Dolan was formerly the CEO of Sonus Networks, a company which merged with Genband in 2017 to become Ribbon Communications. Prior to Sonus, Mr. Dolan was the CEO of Flarion Technologies, the innovator of FLASH-OFDM 4G airlink, a company acquired by Qualcomm in 2006 to form the basis of 4G LTE.

After learning about Orthogonal Time Frequency & Space (OTFS) from founders Shlomo Rakib and Dr. Ronny Hadani, I became convinced about the opportunity for industry adoption of this incredible airlink invention,” said Ray Dolan, Chairman and CEO for Cohere Technologies. “OTFS has the potential to change the mobile industry for decades to come, while immediately helping 5G overcome today’s mobile performance and capacity challenges.”

Last year Cohere demonstrated a significant improvement in spectral efficiency for OTFS as compared to today’s available solutions. The fixed wireless access trial was conducted with Telefonica in Madrid, Spain along with 5TONIC Labs, and measured spectral efficiency of 57 b/s/Hz across 14 layers. With OTFS backwards compatibility, Cohere and partners help deliver on the promise of 5G with seamless 4G to 6G coexistence.

We are thrilled to have Ray join us at this stage of growth as we bring the mobile industry the benefits of our invention,” said Shlomo Rakib, co-founder, CTO and former CEO of Cohere Technologies. “Demands for capacity, coverage and mobility requires the unparalleled performance that OTFS deliver by enabling Mu-MIMO in both TDD and FDD spectrum.”
